Movies on a Plane: Ryan Watches “Look Who’s Taken, Too!”

...At least I'm pretty sure that was the title. No, on closer inspection, it was Taken 2, starring Liam "Badass" Neeson: We just got back to Costa Rica early this morning. We took the only direct flight from Denver to San José, which is a Frontier flight that leaves at midnight and arrives at about 6:00 am. It's faster than a layover, but I'm pretty wiped out now. Especially since I spent the first two hours of the flight watching a movie on Frontier's free Direct TV, when I should probably Read more [...]

Ryan Reviews The Tree of Life

I've been visiting my family and friends this last week, so I've been pretty busy hanging out and having fun. I'm sure a lot of other people are doing that, too (I know that's the main reason it's been quiet at Cinematic Attic in the last week or two), and it's good people are having a nice break. I've also been watching a lot of movies, about 5 or 6 in the last week, and I've been meaning to write a review of at least one. We'll be doing a series of year-end/new-year posts in the next week, but Read more [...]

Triple Feature! Dustin gets down to business.

I have a little bit of free time, so I was able to put in some movie time. Here's three movies I've watched lately, in the order I watched them: Feature 1: The Lorax. My daughter received a few movies for Christmas and this was the first one she wanted to watch. I have not read the book, so I didn't know what it was about, but Sam said it was this book that made her learn that humans are capable of hurting the environment. The makers of Despicable Me made this movie, which made me think I Read more [...]

Review: The Hobbit, An Unexpected Adventure

I need to begin this review by stating that I saw The Hobbit in 24 frames per second in 2 Dimensions; not the way Peter Jackson intended. As Paul so brilliantly explained in a post a few weeks ago, 48 fps is not the way I wanted to see one of my most anticipated films of the year. I wanted Middle Earth to look how I remembered seeing it 10 years ago, not looking Ike a BBC production. I'm still curious to see what all the hype with 48 fps and will most likely see it again in that format in the Read more [...]

After watching Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale, Dustin is now convinced Santa is not our friend

It seems I haven't gotten over my horror movie fixation since October was done and it's just carried over into December. It also seems that I've now watched two movies in a row now that depict our jolly ol' cookie-eating, toy-toting, bearded friend as an evil killer of sorts. This movie had me convinced, the whole sleigh-ride through, until it veered way off course at the end. So, like my last post about evil Santa, this one was also European (Finnish) and this time, it had subtitles, so I wasn't Read more [...]

Mickey Vader?

Dustin's last post made me think of the recent Disney purchase of Lucasfilm. I noticed they've talked about it on outlets such as Badass Digest and Stuck in the 80s, so I thought it also might be worth mentioning here, since we're mostly a movie blog, after all. I also know that I myself am a very big Star Wars fan, as is Deuce. I can't speak as surely about the other contributors to this blog, but whether or not you like the franchise, it does seem to be big news. So, what do you think, if Read more [...]
