Hans Zimmer: Quintessential Hype Man

Hello, Cinematic Attic community! I have come to (hopefully) entertain and delight you, to show you things you never thought possible and to display amazing feats of aural strength! Prepare to feast your eyes and ears on the very first music entry to grace this dashing website. For my first trick, I will both amuse and offend the audience! Now, before I dive into what I'm sure some readers will regard as "Zimmer-bashing", let me first address some semantics of the film music world. I am often Read more [...]

A Hipster’s Last Waltz: Shut Up and Play the Hits

LCD Soundsystem played their final show to a sold-out audience at Madison Square Garden on April 2nd, 2011. The decision to end the band was made by LCD frontman James Murphy. He explained that he wanted time to live his life rather than spend his days touring on the road. LCD Soundsystem were always an interesting "band" because they began as a solo project for Murphy (who was best known as a DJ in New York who had a very eclectic record collection). Their first big "hit" was "Losing My Edge" Read more [...]

Flickchart.com recommends The Night of the Hunter!

Besides cinematicattic.com, of course, flickchart.com is my favorite website. It combines two of some of my favorite things: movies and statistics. I use flickchart often to help me choose movies I should watch, and it's highest recommended movie for me up until Tuesday was The Night of the Hunter. I've been wanting to watch it for some time now since I kept seeing it on many top movie lists, including The Internet Movie Database's Top 250. So, luckily, Amazon Prime had it available for me to watch. Read more [...]

Dustin’s random movie series: I.Q.

Sometimes I like to have some outside force choose my movie. If you go to instantwatcher.com, you can have a random Netflix streaming movie chosen for you. I almost chose another one, not sure if I would be in the mood for a romantic comedy, but I liked that it took place in the 50s and Albert Einstein was played by Walter Matthau. Well, I'm glad I did choose it, because I liked it, for the most part, at least... Sam mentioned she had seen it at some point, and said it was "cute". She was right. Read more [...]

*Ryan Watches “The Hobbit” Surrounded By Idiots And Goes Off On a Good, Old-Fashioned Rant

(Note: There's plenty of bad language in this post, so if you don't like that or don't want your kids exposed to it, be warned. Ironically, if The Hobbit had this much profanity, it might have gotten a rating that would have prevented a lot of the problems I'll describe in this post... which is ripped from the headlines!) So here's the deal. We live in Costa Rica, and we hardly go out. We went to watch Life of Pi at the movie theater in San Ramón last weekend, and we joked that it was our "yearly Read more [...]

You thought it wasn’t possible, but Dustin manages to fit in yet another Holiday classic. New Year’s Evil!

Remember your New Year's? It was almost three weeks, ago, I know. I had meant to watch this back then, but... So, Netflix angers me from time to time. It usually happens when I plan out movie schedules for myself. I do this so I'm never searching for something when I'm ready to watch. Yeah, I'm so awesome. Anyhoo, I have been planning to watch New Year's Evil ever since I saw it was available on Netflix streaming back in October. I knew it would take me a few days to watch (that's just how Read more [...]
