The other movie that kept me smiling was “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” and like “Moonrise Kingdom” it was more than a great movie it was a great movie going experience.
Nice quote, BTW. I still think it’s a snub and the Oscar carries some weight but Sick Boy is right.

Yep, great review! I also loved this movie (it was #2 on my list, just after “Cloud Atlas”).

I agree that the Academy Awards are off, and have been for some time now. Then again, it seems that most people don’t really respect them, at least if something they like doesn’t win or isn’t nominated. I guess if a movie IS nominated and/or wins, then that can sort of enhance its bragging rights, but it’s not like anyone respected “The Artist” more because it won the award.

It reminds me of a quote from “Trainspotting”:
MARK: What about ‘The Untouchables’?
SICK BOY: I don’t rate that at all.
MARK: Despite the Academy Award?
SICK BOY: That means fuck-all!

Your last sentences begs the question, though: “What is the other movie in recent memory that gave you a smile on your face from start to finish?”

Welcome Mike2D2! Great review! I, too, loved Moonrise Kingdom. I told Deuce that it reminded me of a live-action version of Fantastic Mr. Fox. Every scene has an insane abundance of details that it would take 10 viewings to catch them all (and still miss some). I like how you said Willis plays John McClane on a tiny island; that’s how I imagined his character too. This was a good year for Bruce Willis. This and Looper was some of the best acting he’s done since Unbreakable. I’m looking forward to reading more of your reviews, Mike2D2!
