I, too saw Sukiyaki Western Django and I felt the way Ryan did. The opening scene with Tarantino is kind of fun (if only to see him act horribly as he does in every film he's in) but the rest was pretty bad. It bothered me that Takashi Miike made the actors learn English phonetically and made them sound like mentally challenged children. Miike makes so many movies that its understandable a few are bad so I can't hold too much against him. I'm curious too, Paul, did you enjoy it? I've actually been interested in giving it another try some I'm interested in hearing our opinion. For another example of an Asian spaghetti western, has anyone seen the Korean film The Good, the Bad and the Weird? I thought it was brilliant and had some fantastic action sequences.

I'm also looking forward to seeing this movie, but something tells me it won't be making its way to the movie theater in San Ramon any time soon.

And I'm pretty sure your question was directed at Jake, but for the record I have seen Sukiyaki Western Django, and I thought it was so bad it almost made me angry. Maybe it's got some kind of secret film-lover code enmeshed into it, but I just thought it was awful.

What was your take on it--was I missing something?
